Intermediate Unit #5

GED Preparation and Skill Review for College or Job Improvement Free classes are offered through the IU#5 at the Warren Forest Hi-Ed Council. Instruction will help prepare students to take the General Education Diploma (GED) examination. The Skill Review class is designed to help students improve their skills in English, Writing and Math for job advancement and/or college preparation. Cost: Free

The program provides:

• Pre-testing to determine each student’s needs;
• Classroom instruction;
• Individual and group work in the five GED test areas;
• Open-entry/open-exit format allows students to test when ready.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and from 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Evening Classes: Free, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

GED Exam Cost: $125, Presession included.
Writing, Math, Social Studies, Science and Reading. Registration is now being taken. Two forms of ID–one must be a photo.

GED Exam Presession
To complete online registration and paperwork, and to watch a video on exam procedures.

Payment is required with registration. Minimum enrollment required for Exam to be held.
Cost of Retakes: All retakes cost $40 each, up to four tests may be retaken.

There are 3 Steps TO REGISTER FOR THE EXAM.

1. You are required to have your own e-mail account before registering for the GED Exam. You can set up an e-mail account free online at your public library. Go online to Yahoo.com, Hotmail.com, or Gmail.com.

2. To register for the Erie or Warren GED Exam, print and complete the Registration Form. To reserve your seat, send the Form along with a check or money order to: Warren Forest Higher Education Council, 589 Hospital Drive, Suite F, Warren, PA 16365

• GED Exam Cost: $125,
• Retake Exam Cost: $40 each, up to 4 Parts
• Seat for exam will be reserved when payment is received.

You will need to provide the following information before the GED Exam Presession.

• Full proper name: First, Middle, and Last Name

• Address: Street, City, State, Zip Code

• Phone number

• Gender

• What location are you registering to take the Exam: Erie, Corry or Warren?

• Are you taking the full or partial test?

• Date of Birth, Must be 18 years of age; or if your are 17 years-old, your high school class must have already graduated.

• Social Security Number

3. Presession attendance is required. Bring two forms of identification - one must be a photo.

Acceptable forms of identifcation:

• Driver's License

• Military, or other forms of Government issues identification showing address, date of birth and signature

• Current identification provided by post-secondary educational institution

Corry Hi-Ed Council
GED Exam given in Corry, Pa. To register, call Corry Hi-Ed at 814-664-9405.
Pre-registration and payment required to reserve your seat. Minimum enrollment required for Exam to be held.

EXAM DATES:
Presession – Tuesday, April 17 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Corry Hi-Ed.
GED Exam – Tuesday, April 24 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Corry Hi-Ed.

Erie GED Exam

160+-hours; Tuesday/Thursday, September 2012-April 2013 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Hi-Ed. Application Fee: $100.
The Diploma Program provides adults who want to earn a high school diploma the opportunity to bridge the gap between the General Education Diploma (GED) and skills needed for better job opportunities, a new career, or a successful college experience.

Program presenters include: Family Services, Jamestown Audubon Center, Jamestown Business College, Jamestown Community College, University of Pittsburgh-Bradford.

The Program requires:

• Participant's high school class has graduated.
• Participant to earn a GED before or during the program.
• Participant to complete an additional 160+-hour of course work beyond passing the GED exam.

Each participant who graduates will earn a Warren County School District High School Diploma and complete a Portfolio. The course work includes:

Community Resources

• Learn how to use the library for research
• Learn about local organizations, agencies, and emergency facilities in the community and the services that are available.
• Analyze and critically evaluate different forms of communication

Occupational Knowledge and Technology

• Demonstrate readiness to seek employment
• Participate in a technical writing seminar
• Participate in a leadership seminar
• Create a professional, typed resume
• Participate in a Public Speaking seminar
• Learn about services available in local job access agency, and how to access job posting information
• Participate in a business etiquette seminar
• Participate in a career laddering seminar
• Learn about common workplace issues, and develop strategies for dealing with or solving common issues
• Apply effective speaking and listening skills
• Learn about common types of workplace discrimination
• Participate in an Ethics seminar
• Participate in a Reading Comprehension class

Government, Law & Citizenship

• Demonstrate knowledge of rights and responsibilities at the federal, state, and local government levels.
• Demonstrate map reading skills, geographic patterns of state, county, and/or world in terms of land masses and major bodies of water.
• Participate in a 20-hour volunteer program
• Learn about the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from a government representative.
• Discuss current events

Global Studies

• Learn about visual and performing arts
• Learn about racial, ethnic, religious, and social groups in the community, nation, and world

Science

• Learn how genetic information is inherited and expressed, and explain the relationship between structure and function at all levels of organization.

• Learn to use various computations, measurements, graphs, and estimation to solve practical problems

• Complete and pass a CPR/First Aid course
