Fast Track to Success: Career Planning Expo - October 6, 2010, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. A College and Career Expo is held each year in October for students in grades 11 and 12 to provide an opportunity for high students to explore career opportunities, job education requirements, and financial aid options. Representatives from colleges, universities, technical schools, local employers, and military recruiters are available to address each student’s individual career interest.

Financial Aid Night - October 13, 2010, 6:00-8:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn.
Meet in the Forest Room
from 6;00-7:00 p.m. with local Banks, Credit Unions, Charitable Foundations and Scholarship Contributors, and Workshop from 7:00-8:30 p.m. with Dan Johnston, PHEAA Representative.

Students in grades 11-12 have the opportunity to shadow a mentor in their career area of interest for a maximum of two days.  Each student can choose more than one career to explore, if they are unsure of their interest. To participate, complete the Job Shadow Registration Form and submit it to your guidance counselor for approval.  The guidance office will forward the completed form to the STW office for placement. Job Shadowing is Option #7 of the WCSD Senior Graduation Project.

A program designed for all Warren County School District teachers to spend a week in the workplace job shadowing professionals in a career area relevant to the subject material taught by the educator. Call 814-723-3222 to request items from the Resource Library.

AHUG/PA Woodmobile Program: Students in 3rd grade are introduced to wood resource products found in our area.  This one-day activity encompasses forest management, tree identification, wildlife management, paper making, forest of many uses, and more. STW and the Allegheny Hardwood Utilization Group co-sponsor the event.

Spanish Immersion Camp: $50: June 14-18, 2010, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Hi-Ed. Application deadline: June 4, 2009. Warren County students in grades 6-8 will be immersed in the Spanish culture by exploring the various Spanish speaking nations. Students will be exposed to music, dance, art, foods, and participate in learning the basics of the Spanish language. Plus, learn about careers that require the knowledge of a second language. Camp includes a field trip to the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford to participate in Spanish immersion activities. Click Spanish Immersion Camp to view brochure or to register.

21st Century Girls Career Camp, $30: June 21-25, 2010, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Hi-Ed. Application deadline: June 7, 2009. While attending a one-week summer camp, female Warren County students in grades 6 and 8 explore non-traditional careers available in our region. Get the Buzz on Biz–Youth Enterprise Academy Entrepreneurship Summer Camp: Students in grades 9-12 learn how to start a business, keep a business, and operate a business. Camp includes field trips, activities and recognition for work accomplished during event.

8th Grade Career Day: March 5, 2010 Students in grade 8 are given the opportunity to explore career interests by meeting with employers from Warren County through a career day activity.

AHEC - Careers in Health Presentation:  Elementary students are introduced to health careers by means of a puppet presentation, video and activity book. This program is made available in conjunction with the Emergycare of Warren County.

Eggs & Issues Breakfast: School-to-Work invites 10 students from each high school on a rotating basis to attend the bi-monthly Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry Breakfast meetings for an opportunity to meet with local business, industry and government leaders.

Requests for Proposals: RFP’s provide an opportunity for educators to obtain mini-grants for classroom projects involving career exploration. Funds for this program are donated by local business and industry to School-to-Work.
